OVERVIEW

The Netherlands stands out as one of Europe’s most dynamic economies, offering a unique blend of opportunity, innovation, and cultural richness. Strategically located in the heart of Europe, the country serves as a gateway to the European market, with 170 million consumers within a 500 km radius. Renowned for its strong global connections, the Netherlands ranks among the top five most competitive economies worldwide, as highlighted by the World Economic Forum.

Key industries driving the Dutch economy include technology, finance, logistics, agribusiness, and sustainability. The Netherlands is a world leader in agritech, exporting over €100 billion worth of agricultural products annually, second only to the United States. Its advanced logistics network, bolstered by the Port of Rotterdam—the largest in Europe—and Schiphol Airport, positions the country as a global trading powerhouse. The technology and innovation sector is equally robust, with Eindhoven’s “Brainport” region recognised as one of Europe’s leading innovation hubs.

The Netherlands also attracts global financial institutions, thanks to its stable economic climate and transparent regulatory environment. Amsterdam, a fintech and financial services hub, is home to many multinational companies. Meanwhile, the country is at the forefront of sustainability efforts, investing heavily in renewable energy, circular economy practices, and green technologies.

Beyond its thriving industries, the Netherlands is celebrated for its high quality of life. It boasts excellent healthcare, a world-class education system, and a strong emphasis on work-life balance. English is widely spoken, making it easier for international professionals to integrate. Ranked consistently among the happiest countries globally, the Netherlands offers a unique combination of career opportunity and cultural richness, making it an ideal destination for professionals seeking personal and professional growth.

REQUIREMENTS TO SET UP A COMPANY

Setting up a company in the Netherlands involves several key steps. First, you must choose a legal structure, with options including a limited liability company (BV) or a public limited company (NV). You’ll need to register with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KVK) and obtain a VAT number from the tax authorities. Opening a business bank account and meeting any sector-specific regulations are also essential. Depending on your business, additional licenses or permits may be required. AP Executive does not facilitate the legal set-up of companies but our experienced recruitment consultants are able to provide specialist staffing services.

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYEES WISHING TO RELOCATE

Employees wishing to relocate to the Netherlands must obtain the appropriate visa or residence permit. Citizens from the EU/EEA and Switzerland do not require a visa but must register with the local municipality. Non-EU/EEA citizens typically need a work permit, such as the Highly Skilled Migrant visa or the EU Blue Card, depending on the job and qualifications. Employees must also have health insurance and meet other residency requirements. AP Executive only acts as a recruitment agency assisting as introductory service between candidates and companies. AP Executive does not facilitate visa or licence or act as relocation agent.
