A global wealth management company with family roots and over 130 years of experience is looking to hire a credit officer manager based in their Guernsey office.

The successful candidate will work with the existing credit team, focusing on the arrangement and management of UK real estate transactions and reporting to the Head of Credit. The role also requires addressing research and development of new credit products and their supporting systems/processes, representation on various committees within the company (including its Credit Committee), developing credit strategy and communication of credit-related services and issues to clients, relationship managers and senior management within Guernsey and the across the company.

The role-holder will perform a key management role within a small team of experienced credit officers. Prepare credit proposals. Prepare and perfect credit documentation and all associated security. Monitor credit exposures. Manage any default positions. Provide advice and guidance to relationship managers on credit-related issues. Conduct credit negotiations with relationship managers who are negotiating on behalf of their clients. Maintain and develop existing and new credit products. Participate in the Guernsey Credit Committee meetings as necessary. Liaise with credit approval authorities for Lombard cases to enable self-approval of limits within certain values and risk-rating parameters (upon satisfactory completion of probation). Be a signatory for the company in Guernsey. Manage credit-related project work, assess the impact of legislation changes, review credit agreements and security documentation wording, develop and test new automated processes and provide feedback to development teams in the company’s head office. Liaise directly with the Group Head of Credit and, where necessary, the Chief Risk Officer. Visit other offices within the company to discuss credit-related topics and provide training and guidance. Prepare and/or submit credit statistics and regular risk reports to the company’s head office. Maintain credit files and records.

To be suitable for this role, you will have well-developed personal and socials skills. Proven ability to work as an effective member within a team of senior subject matter experts. Developed knowledge of asset classes and the different risks they present. Good understanding of general legal principals and the ability to work effectively with internal and external legal counsel to understand (and resolve where possible) key legal points. A broad knowledge of credit products and processes, including derivative credit exposures. Able to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Flexibility to meet demands of the day-to-day workflows and challenges. Client-focused with good written and oral communication skills. Able to communicate with internal and external customers on all levels. Good personal organisation and planning. Strong negotiating skills. Able to bring energy and commitment to the role along with a good sense of humour. Well-developed professional and technical skills. International private banking experience (at least five years) within a credit environment. Developed knowledge of the principles of lending on a cross-border basis to different borrower types and against different types of asset class. Strong level of risk awareness. Professional securities and/or banking qualifications.
